Class 10 Replay |
Welcome Revolutionary Sisters! You can replay these class recordings at any time. They will be available here for 30 days following the end of this course. Please do not share this link nor any of these recordings and course materials outside of this program. Thank you.
Week 1 |
1. Your big why. If you feel you have a lot left to write or say around your big why, continue journaling around it. You can also come into the 'secret' Facebook group, make a video or share a post about it, and allow us to witness you. This is the first step towards taking up more space in a manageable way, within the safety and privacy of this group.
2. Celebrate Your Accomplishments. Write a list of your top accomplishments this year, both personally and professionally. This makes space for how you want to show up next year -- that is, your goals, ideals, and vision as a speaker/ leader for 2020 become clearer. Begin your statement with an action verb. Be as specific as you can. Name things by their names and be specific wherever possible. For ex: "I gave my first TEDx Talk this year, which led to a connection to BuzzFeed News, Thrive Global, and The Wing." You do not need to share this with the group, this is for you right now. However, if you would like us to celebrate, witness you, and root for you, then feel free to share 1-3 accomplishments in the Facebook group.
3. Take the Poll. Go to the secret Facebook Page and take the poll. Stake your claim, and make it known how you would like to show up in 2020.

Week 2
Let's do a deeper dive around the writing prompts you received during the live class this week. If you still have a lot left unsaid, or want to explore this further, then slow down & really spend some time with these questions. You may also be stilling working through your big WHY. The answers to these questions will be the compass to your message & it will give you the confidence & conviction you need to take the stage in the first place. I recommend re-listening to the Class 2 replay. Then, set your timer for 20 minutes, to set a firm container for this writing exercise.
1. Writing Prompts:
(a) What is the core idea that you have, that is fresh?
(b) Why is this idea important to you?
(c) Why should your idea matter to others?
(d) Why should it matter for changing the world?
(e) Are you turning a general theory or social norm on its head? If so, how? And if so, why?
2. Watch >> this TED Talk by Zainab Salbi,<< in preparation for next week's class 3. We will be unpacking this talk in class, and it will give you some context for what we will discuss.

Week 3
In this week's class, we talked about the 5 types of narratives your evolutionary message can take.
To summarize:
(1) Hearing the calling. The "why" of your message
(2) Your audience. The "who" of your message
(3) Your unique message. The "what" of your message
(4) Choosing your platform. The "How" of your message
(5) Shaping your influence. This is "you" as the leader
We also talked about the 5 main purposes for your message:
(1) Disrupting
(2) Uniting
(3) Calling Out
(4) calling in
(5) Supporting
Listen to the replay for an in-depth look at this, including the videos that exemplify this well.
Your homework this week is to dig into the above 5 components and purposes, and then examine where you currently are on your own journey. Journal and self-inquire on the following:
(1) How is your calling/message to make an impactful contribution playing out in your daily actions?
(2) Who do you want to impact?
(3) Listen/watch deeper this week. What other talks, interviews, podcasts, tv shows you are listening to, represent and/or depict the 5 main purposes above?
Your main focus right now is greater self-inquiry and self-awareness, so that you are better able to identify your own starting point. We will be digging deeper into crafting your unique message next week.

Week 5
1. Writing Your First Draft. In this week's assignment, you are diving into the first draft of your signature message. You have permission to be as disorganized and messy as you need to be with this. It will get cleaned up along the way. The time has come to get your thoughts down on paper.

2. Watch this TED Talk from Sisonke Msimang, “If a story moves you, act on it.” Notice her take on the power of storytelling & what she calls storytelling is the antidote to bias. https://www.ted.com/talks/sisonke_msimang_if_a_story_moves_you_act_on_it
After you watch it, please journal your answers to the following questions:
- What worked for you in her talk?
- What didn’t work for you?
- What new ideas came to you for your message?
3. Owning Your Expertise
Why are you an expert on the topic of your talk? Write down both your personal and professional credentials. (These do not need necessarily need to be included in your talk. But you need to OWN these things in order to stand in your authority & give your talk.)
Please share with the group where you are in terms of OWNING your expertise on this topic. What fears or self-doubts are there? What are you claiming and celebrating? Go for it.
After you share, please read through what your sisters in the group are sharing on the page and comment on at least two posts to offer support.

Week 7
(1) This week you are making a list of the 10 events/conferences/speaking gigs you aspire to speak at. Then, number your page from 1 to 10, and prioritize these events, with your most ideal event at the top. Think big! Then come into the Facebook group and share your list with us for added accountability and inspiration. This also allows me to see how I can further connect you to the decision makers.
As mentioned, this link has a list of events happening in the U.S. & Canada : https://eventsinamerica.com.
(2 ) If you haven't connected with your Accountability sister/partner this week, please take a moment to schedule that call.
(3) Added challenge this week: Make a social media post about your intention to speak on the stage this year, inviting your audience/fans/followers to support you by linking you to curators and organizers looking for speakers. Be bold. Be brave, sister-speaker! Remember, many of these opportunities occur through building relationships.

Week 8
This week, you are identifying and choosing 2 specific TEDx events that are right for you, on the TEDx listing site here: https://www.ted.com/tedx/events. Find the event organizers and follow them from afar for now. Get to know them and find out what connection you may have. You are not reaching out to them yet.
After you have identified, researched and followed these organizers, reach out to them, using this template:

Week 9
This week you are working on taking your draft to that next level, by incorporating a strong and simple Call to Action. Do some journaling around: What is it that you want your audience to have an unambiguous understanding of by the end of your talk?
I recommend watching Monica Lewinsky's TED Talk here for some examples of this.
Here is where you can find your Assignment for this week:

Week 11
In today's class, we learned ways to exercise our throat chakra and strengthen our public speaking voice, from guest speaker Mytrae Meliana. Take a look at the below handout she has prepared for you. This week, take some time to start practicing some of these tools, so that you can start to learn them. The idea is, that you want to know what works best for you now, so that these tools are integrated and feeling familiar, long before you take the actual stage.
Secondly, if you haven't presented your talk aloud to yourself, it's time to do so this week. Then, take notes and listen back to the recording. Then go ahead and schedule a "practice presentation" with your Accountability Sister/Partner.
Remember, presenting your talk aloud is not that your script is ready, it's a part of getting your script ready.

Week 12
This week, you are creating a 2-3 minute video about your message. The idea is, that your talk can only be on paper/in writing for so long -- at some point, your words need air to breathe, it needs to be verbalized -- and that time has come.
This exercise is for you no matter where you are in the writing process, even if you have your talk barely written. You're basically going through another revision of your talk. This also allows me to coach you into the next manageable step in the process.
We are in the 2nd half of this course now, and picking up a bit of speed. Make your 2-3 minute video and post it in the private Facebook group by Monday, Feb 24th at the latest. We are here to cheer you on!

Week 13
In Class 13, we talked about how and why the purpose of your message is crucial. Know your why, know your audience, and know the tangible steps you want your audience to take. Knowing the purpose of your message, allows you to prepare for the long-term and the outcome you want to achieve.
Since this was a class heavy on content, I recommend listening to the replay, before connecting with your accountability parter.
This week, talk these points through with your accountability partner. Set up a call, and discuss these self-inquiry questions:

This week, talk these points through with your accountability partner. Set up a call, and discuss these self-inquiry questions:
- Are you embodying a message that is (a) Disruptive, (b) Calling In, (c) Calling Out, (d) Uniting, (e) Supporting (f) Or a combination of these?
- What's the outcome you want to create in your long-term plan?
- What kind of opposition, backlash or resistance might you expect to encounter?
- What preparations do you need to make to support yourself if others oppose your viewpoint?

Week 14 |
This week, you're taking one of the action steps outlined herein this replay link. You're not gonna want to take all of these steps, but consider taking 1 specific step this week. For instance, make a list of all the media contacts/journalists in your area of expertise, local to your city or town.
One of the other things we talked about, was applying applying to Women's Media Center's Progressive Women's Voices Leadership & Training Program here. Keep in mind that the deadline to apply is March 15th.

Week 15
In this week's class, we talked about working through the traumatic elements of your story.
(1) What can you do to process these elements in relation to your talk?
(2) Is there any further work that needs to be done to integrate these parts in service of your message?
This week's homework is to practice writing your story, by way of an 'information dump.' Set your timer for 10-15 minutes, and simply write out the facts of your story, without the emotion around it. You can then revisit this piece, and note where the emotional moments are.
This is how we move that energy through and own our stories, so that it doesn't have so much power over us.

Week 16
In this class, we take a moment to share, support, and encourage each other in light of all that's happening in the world. Included in this recording is a guided meditation to center and heal your nervous system. Have a listen to the replay below.
As mentioned in the call, starting Friday, Mar. 20th, I will be offering a daily drop-in/support/co-working call each day, Monday through Friday, until this course is scheduled to end, as a way to hold space, added community, and support during this time of quarantine. Let's get your needs met! Bring a project, your notebook, a deadline, your art, or whatever it is your working on.
